Social Media Marketing in Black and White

On Tuesday, I gave a keynote at KMP’s Social Media Marketing in Black and White seminar. On the whole I think it went OK although as I hadn’t done a full run through of the presentation I think I got a little derailed halfway through – mainly because I wrote the synopsis and structure of the presentation long before I’d had a real think about what I wanted to talk about. I can’t escape the feeling that I’d do better without slides and just have a rough outline of the structure of the talk to work from. Sometimes I found that I hit a slide titled with something that I’d already covered whilst rambling on a bit. A lesson learned but I still think it was better than standing up and reading out bullet points – the temptation to just say what’s written on the slide is too great sometimes.

Here’s my presentation:

It was good to hear Neville Hobson speak, he gives many good examples of social media in action and seems to have a huge mental database of people doing great work in all sorts of industries.

Dan Rutherford and Chris Applegate from Outside Line gave a presentation which many of the attendees found particularly interesting, detailing the strategy and implementation of the LG Blog. It’s fascinating to get an insight into the full process of creating a successful blogger outreach program.

Paul Fabretti‘s Blogging for Business was packed with essential information, but then you would expect it to be from Ad Age’s 388th most influential blogger ;)
