About Me
My name is Dave Kinsella and I have been designing and developing websites and web applications since 1994.
I originally began training in computer programming back when COBOL and PASCAL were the main languages on the curriculum. I soon got bored of this and dropped out - only to find work as a database programmer (DBase III). After a short spell of this I re-enrolled in college to study Graphic Design.
Whilst working as a designer for a blue-chip corporate communications department, I started to get interested in the Internet - the WWW was beginning to take dominance over Usenet and dial-in BBS systems. I decided that I wanted to get involved.
Armed with a Compuserve account, a 2.4 kbps modem and the ability to "view source" I built my first web page. I don't remember the details but I recall that it was a centred, single column of comic sans text in various garish colours - as was the design trend at the time.
Since then I think I've improved my skills somewhat and picked up experience in several programming languages too. A long stint working on intranet applications for a large company taught me a lot about business objectives, requirements gathering and when to abandon an non-viable project.
I now have the luxury of being in charge of research and development for KMP Interactive Marketing and Technology as we work to bolster our product portfolio.
Why Web developer 2.0?
I admit that originally it was a bit of a play on the Web 2.0 meme but it also represents my own professional evolution from design and development to a more strategic role.
